Description

In all the biographies and even in his own book 'Vivir para Contarla' (2002), the various stages and crucial years of Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez's life in Barranquilla are recounted. This special activity invites you to follow the footsteps of our beloved 'Gabo' in the city. Guided by an expert on his works and life, we explore the city, visiting locations that influenced his life and are mentioned in his novels. Our journey begins at the Parque Cultural del Caribe, an ideal place to delve into the work of the Colombian Nobel laureate. Here, we encounter the Gabriel García Márquez exhibition, which transports us to a 1950s Caribbean newspaper editorial room. Alongside typewriters and linotypes, we see animated excerpts from three of his most famous works. Another section of the park houses the Macondo Media Library, a center for audiovisual and written media that showcases Gabo's work in more than 25 languages. In the Museum's Kitchen, we savor the Colombian coffee that the writer adored. Nearby, we stroll through the Plaza de San Nicolás, discovering places frequented by the literary genius. Just a block away is the famous Americana Ice Cream Parlor, where we taste the unique Frozomalt ice cream mentioned in his novel 'Love in the Time of Cholera.' Following this, we visit the Church of Perpetual Help, where García Márquez married Mercedes Barcha. Our tour continues to La Cueva Restaurant Bar, a significant meeting spot in his life where he gathered with close friends. This place is rich with anecdotes about the group of artists who would conclude their intellectual gatherings here. The final stop on our tour is La Tiendecita, a favorite spot of Gabo's for enjoying typical coastal food. After tasting these traditional dishes, our tour concludes.
